2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Chevrolet officially announced the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - an American supercar that brings the technology and engineering refinement of carbon-fiber, ceramics and electronics together in a distinctive design.
“Chevrolet’s goal with the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is to show what an American supercar can deliver, at a price that trumps exotics that cost two, three or four times as much - and does so with exceptional driveability,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.
The specialized components of the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 work harmoniously to deliver the most powerful and fastest automobile ever produced by General Motors. Performance estimates will be announced closer to vehicle’s summer 2008 launch.
“Preliminary testing shows the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 builds on the highly respected Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in every performance category, from acceleration and braking, to cornering grip and top speed,” said Peper. “It all boils down to the power-to-weight ratio and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s is exceptional - better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 and even the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. In fact, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is expected to be the first production Corvette to achieve a top speed of at least 200 mph.”

2009 Callaway Chevrolet Corvette

The Callaway Corvette is powered by GM’s remarkable 6.2L LS3 engine, enhanced by Callaway’s Eaton/Magna Charger supercharger system. The Roots-type supercharger provides substantial power increase over the stock Corvette’s 430 bhp, while supercharger internals manufactured by Eaton, the world’s leading OEM supercharger supplier, ensure bulletproof reliability. Callaway’s electronic engine management calibration provides perfect street manners, eliminating engine-damaging detonation and maintaining excellent fuel economy and 50-state emission compliance (CARB E.O. D-488-14). Magnuson’s unique intercooler design, built into the intake manifold base (patent pending), lowers charge air temperature up to 100F to increase power. During low-load cruising conditions, the supercharger’s internal bypass allows the rotors to spin freely, reducing parasitic drag to less than one-third of one horsepower.

2009 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Sideswipe Concept

SIDESWIPE takes the form of a sleek, vision concept dreamed up by the Corvette designers at GM. The design is influenced by the original Stingray race car, introduced in 1959, but also draws on Corvette heritage cues from other generations. It brings them together in a futuristic shape that seems to be equal parts racecar and space ship.
“SIDESWIPE represents an exercise in exploration for the Corvette,” said Ed Welburn, vice president of GM Global Design. “By giving my creative team the freedom to design no-holds-barred vision concepts, it helps them push boundaries and look at projects from different perspectives.”
